The redevelopment of the oldest hospital in New Westminster, Vancouver, will expand its services with new facilities: a 10-storey intensive care building, expansion of the emergency and maternity ward, new operating theatres, among others.

ULMA solution

The supply of ORMA galvanised formwork made it possible to realise 6 separate cores for the stairwells, the central core of the main lift, columns of various dimensions and pillars with a special V-shaped geometry.

All vertical concrete structures were built with ORMA as the only system. An efficient, safe and fast on-site formwork, which did not generate any waste. The main wall was concreted in one pour and the concreting height reached 7.65 metres for 1 metre thick walls.

In the V-shaped columns, ORMA panels have been combined with MK-120 walers to create this unique geometry, to support the forces and to carry out a single pour for a height of 17m.

The VR-L Tables with ALUPROP and MK-120 walers have created a shoring and formwork system for the concreting of slabs up to 7 m high. Thanks to its lower weight, number of components, and higher load capacity compared to traditional shoring systems, ALUPROP has facilitated the movement of materials on-site more efficiently with less manpower and machinery.
