Description
The renovation project of the Hôtel du Palais in Biarritz required the installation of perimeter scaffolding for façade treatment, refurbishment, and the replacement of exterior windows and doors.
A temporary roof covering the entire structure allowed the contractors involved to work sheltered from bad weather, thereby meeting project deadlines.
Access staircases for personnel and material loading platforms facilitated circulation and distribution to the various floors.
The ULMA teams, through their dedication and responsiveness during both the engineering design and assembly/logistics phases, contributed to the success of this major project while respecting deadlines.
ULMA Solution
A base-supported and partially suspended perimeter scaffolding system was used to support a complete temporary roof over the work zones.
All structures were dimensioned to withstand coastal weather constraints, resisting wind speeds of up to 140 km/h.
Specific lines of tie plates at the top of the façade ensured the load-bearing capacity for the significant forces resulting from the high clear spans exposed to the wind. Pull-out testing campaigns conducted on the various façades verified the design assumptions and the overall stability of the structures.
The aluminium trusses of the ULMA temporary roof were assembled in pairs and then craned from the ground onto the BRIO multidirectional scaffolding designed for this purpose. The quick and robust rail-based tarpaulin system streamlined assembly for the ULMA teams. It also allowed the end-user company to manage material removal and supply by temporarily opening portions of the roof.
