It is the main sports arena of the country. Its refurbishment is part of a plan put forward by the Peruvian government to turn the city of Lima into a host of major international events.

Opened in 1952 with a capacity of up to 47,000 people, the current works will bring 13,000 new seats, through the construction of 6 meter high walls which expand the grandstands and box seats.

The main improvement consists in the erection of a metal structure surrounding the perimeter of the stadium, built with aluminium plates.

Moreover, modern lighting, emergency stairs, lifts, passageways to the higher levels, 371 boxes, press area, fast food restaurants, toilets and changing rooms are located, will be built.
