Bridge at km 81.1 - D1 Motorway, Bertotovce, Slovak Republic

MK technology shows its potential
This bridge is part of the most important motorway currently under construction in the Slovak Republic.

Description

This bridge is part of the most important motorway currently under construction in the Slovak Republic. The 11.2 km long motorway links one end the country with the other and is part of the Trans-European Road Network.

ULMA Solution

The 281 m long bridge consists of 4 spans; the largest being 87 m. The piers are characterised by a particular design. Each pier is made up of 4 columns joined at the top through a reinforcement wall. Those piers exceeding 38.5 m carry another reinforcement wall at half its total height.

Piers, abutments and the pier segment were built with modular formwork based on the MK technology. The supporting structure for the construction of the reinforcement walls, MK High Load Capacity Brackets, as well as the climbing system, were adapted to the shape of the piers.

At the top of the pier, the gaps between the supports were used for 4 transverse trusses on the drop beams of the grid structure. On this support, the pier segment was built in three stages with MK vertical and horizontal beam formwork.

According to safety standards, additional platforms were installed between columns to ensure workers' safety throughout the construction process.

ULMA was the only supplier offering the 12 m high truss solution on a rental basis, because it consists to almost 100% of standard parts.
