ULMA’s MEGAFRAME shoring system helps in the continued transformation of Long Island City
The 42-20 27th Street building will rise 18 stories that include a 3,000 SF of commercial space on the first level and 195 apartments totaling 192,000 SF.

Description

The 42-20 27th Street building is located between Queens Plaza South and 42nd Road, right in the center of a construction flourishing Long Island City. 42-20 27th Street rises among newly built towers in the dated industrial vibe of Long Island City.

The 42-20 27th Street building will rise 18 stories that include a 3,000 SF of commercial space on the first level and 195 apartments totaling 192,000 SF. A 55 car parking garage is being constructed adjacent to the structure. 42-20 27th Street will try to achieve a LEED Silver Certification for sustainability.

ULMA Solution

Due to the 42-20 27th Street building unique staggered slab construction design (with slabs higher than 40 feet high), ULMA proposed the use of its 10,000 pounds per leg (20,000 pounds per frame) galvanized steel frame handset shoring system MEGAFRAME, designed to work most efficiently on High-floor or high-shoring height applications and multiple shoring heights that includes drop beams and column capitals.

The contractor also chose ULMA’s MEGAFRAME system for the few components the systems requires, simplifying the assembly and stripping process providing improved productivity with the project while promoting safety with Tie-off plates built-in every shoring frame.

ULMA worked closely with the contractor to provide all engineering, logistics and field support services required to keep this project on track. ULMA is supplying approximately 20,000 SF of shoring equipment for the construction with our MEGAFRAME system.
