The construction work began its improvement phase at the Rheinhafen power station in Karlsruhe with the expansion of a new RDK 8 coal-fired power plant.

ULMA solution

This new power plant consists of various floors and houses the core of the plant, based on a system of high-performance steam turbines. The necessary amount of formwork and other products were supplied to execute the project from the first stages: foundations, walls, slabs, etc.

It is worth highlighting the completion of the formwork and the concrete pouring of what is called the “turbine table.” The support for the steam turbine needed to meet high standards regarding the dimensional tolerances, requiring a precise formwork, which is why an analysis was carried out beforehand regarding the layout and distribution of the formwork.

This multi-story building with a length of 100 m, a width of 50 m and a height of 43 m, required a system of solid foundations with a thickness of 2 m. Due to the static requirements, the columns, slabs and beams also needed to have large dimensions. For this reason, in accordance with the reduced work times and the subsequent execution cycles, a wide range of products from the portfolio were used on site. The execution process of the walls, columns and other structures progressed quickly thanks to the 3,000 m2 ORMA Modular Formwork use. The wide range of panels allowed the client to make the appropriate selection for this case, since their lengths and widths enable them to be adapted to the needs of any jobsite. Additionally, all the columns were equipped with their respective working platforms, guaranteeing the safety of workers in the concrete pouring process and when working at height.

The concrete slabs were executed with the ENKOFLEX system supported on a high load capacity ALUPROP props. Made of aluminum, light, and easy to handle, they resulted to be an advantage for workers.
