Description

Designed by the architect Santiago Calatrava, the "Città dello Sport" includes soccer fields, running tracks, shops, offices, apartments, libraries, the new "Palazzo dello Sport", the swimming stadium and the Rector's Office of the University of Tor Vergata.

This project was a great challenge because of its unique architectural features and the complex design of the new Roman swimming stadium.

ULMA Solution

The requirements for the fair-faced concrete finishing were very strict. Coherence and continuity of the wall design required the tie holes to be in a regular vertical pattern and the plywood panel of a size of 3 x 1.25 m. The versatility of the MK System and the formwork optimisation according to the type of concrete achieved to fulfil these high demands.

The 13 m high surrounding wall was built in a creative way with different types of openings, both as well as overlapping. A spectacular building in whose interior there are almost 190 between 30 and 70 m long arches. The backbone of it is a 130 m longitudinal arch which supports the steel and glass roof.

Along with formwork of the MK System, 12,000 m2 slab and 4,000 m2 vertical formwork were supplied.
