Lucca Hospital, Italy

ULMA, a model for large-scale projects
This project is designed according to the latest standards in hospital construction: open and bright spaces, safety, solidity, seismic design and stability.

Description

This project is designed according to the latest standards in hospital construction: open and bright spaces, safety, solidity, seismic design and stability.

With a height of 18 m and 49,000 m2 floor space, it is a compact block which makes movements of staff faster to optimise resources and minimise operating expense. The hospital consists of two parallel rectangular buildings in H-shape of 120 x 140 m length. Each of the four floors extends to 70,000 m2 with a slab height between 3.84 and 4.84 m.

    • Volume: 195.500 m3
    • Floors: 1+4
    • Construction time: 2 months for the parking + 3 months for the floors

ULMA Solution

The CC-4 aluminium formwork with EP Props offered the perfect solution for extensive floors without obstacles and with a minimum number of evenly distributed columns. In total and to meet the agreed deadlines, 8,000 m2 of CC-4 aluminium formwork and 2,300 EP Props were used. Due to the system's reduced requirement of props per m2 large working areas could be created and assembly time saved.

The CC-4's great efficiency lies in the lightness of its aluminium profiles and the sophistication of the system. Assembly is carried out from inside by sliding the panels into place on the beam grid. Thus, a single worker, from a single location was able to erect up to 10 m2 of formwork.

In accordance with safety standards, the BRIO system provides perimeter protection and prevents any falls from height.

The experience of ULMA's Italian subsidiary in large-scale projects has ensured the timely delivery of material, contributing its know-how throughout the entire building process.
